M+ Museum, Kowloon – $1m Hong Kong Dollar Contract for Architectural Ironmongery from Doorfit

Exporting Doorfit’s expertise…

The M+ building, located in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong overlooking Victoria Harbour. Its scale is vast – thirty-three galleries, cinemas, learning hubs and a Mediatheque across 17,000 square feet, making it amongst the largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world.

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron in partnership with TFP Farrells and Arup, the building is a striking part of the waterfront sitted in front of Hong Kong’s tallest buiding, the International Commerce Centre. The design is an inverted ‘T’ shape with podium cantilevers above ground.

In the final stages of the fit out, Doorfit was commissioned to supply over 1 million (HKD) Hong Kong Dollars of quality architectural ironmongery. The package included over a thousand pairs of British manufactured hinges, scores of panic bolts in varying configurations, Italian designed lever handles and over eighty heavy duty escape solenoid locksets.
