Description
Union L2241 Oval Sashlock 63mm Polished Brass
We all know that feeling when a door does not quite shut properly or when the lock feels a bit flimsy against the daily wear and tear of a busy household. Whether it is the front door or an internal room that needs a little extra privacy, having a reliable mechanism is essential for peace of mind. That is where the Union L2241 Oval Sashlock 63mm Polished Brass comes into play. It is a classic piece of hardware that combines traditional aesthetics with the robust engineering you expect from a brand like Union.
When you choose a sashlock for your home, you are looking for something that operates smoothly every single time you turn the handle. This particular lock is designed to be a workhorse. It handles the constant opening and closing of your timber doors without complaint, ensuring that your living space remains secure and your doors stay firmly shut when you need them to. If you are refurbishing an older property or simply upgrading tired door hardware, this polished brass finish adds a touch of timeless elegance that complements both period and contemporary interiors perfectly.
Why choose this specific sashlock for your home
Choosing the right lock can sometimes feel like a daunting task because there are so many options on the market. However, the beauty of this unit lies in its simplicity and its proven reliability. It is an oval profile sashlock, which means it is designed to work with specific cylinder types that provide a sleek, streamlined look on your door. Because the casing is made from high-quality steel with a protective powder coat, you can rest easy knowing that the internal components are shielded from dust and debris that might otherwise hinder performance over the years.
One of the most practical features of this lock is its versatility regarding door orientation. Many people worry about whether a lock will suit a door that opens to the left or the right. With this model, you do not need to stress about that because it features a reversible latch bolt. This clever design detail means you can adjust the lock to suit your specific door configuration without needing to buy a separate part or worry about incorrect fitment. It is a thoughtful touch that saves you time and frustration during the installation process.
Robust construction for everyday security
Security is not just about the lock itself, but the materials that go into making it. This product features a brass deadbolt, which is renowned for its strength and durability. To add an extra layer of resilience, it includes hardened steel rollers within the bolt. These rollers are designed to resist sawing or tampering, providing a much higher level of security than standard internal locks. When you lock your door, you want to know that it is going to stay locked, and these small but significant engineering choices ensure exactly that.
- The brass deadbolt includes integrated hardened steel rollers to improve overall resistance against physical interference.
- You can easily reverse the latch bolt to ensure the lock works perfectly regardless of whether your door is hung on the left or the right side.
- The follower is made from high-quality brass and is designed for an 8mm square spindle, ensuring a smooth and responsive handle movement every time.
- Each unit is carefully pierced to accept bolt through furniture, which helps keep your door handles securely in place and prevents them from becoming loose over time.
- This lock is assessed for use on 60 minute fire doors under EN 1634-1 standards, giving you extra confidence in its performance during an emergency.
The elegance of polished brass
Beyond the technical side of things, we know that appearance matters. The polished brass finish on this Union L2241 Oval Sashlock 63mm Polished Brass offers a warm, inviting glow that instantly makes a room feel more complete. It pairs beautifully with dark wood tones, white painted doors, or even more modern grey palettes. Unlike cheaper alternatives that might lose their shine or start to flake, this finish is designed to maintain its lustre with simple, occasional care. It adds that finishing touch of quality that guests will notice the moment they reach for the handle.
Because the striking plate and the forend are both finished to match the polished brass of the lock, the entire installation looks cohesive and professional. There is nothing worse than having mismatched hardware, but with this set, everything is considered. It is these small details that elevate a simple home improvement project into something that looks like it was completed by a professional joiner.
Practical applications and suitability
This lock is ideally suited for timber doors where you need both a latch to keep the door closed and a deadbolt for security. It is a common choice for internal doors that require a key, such as a home office, a guest bedroom, or a cupboard containing valuables. The 63mm case size is a standard dimension that fits most internal timber doors, making it a very safe bet if you are replacing an existing lock that has seen better days.
If you are a DIY enthusiast, you will appreciate how straightforward the installation is. However, if you are not entirely confident in your woodworking skills, it is always a good idea to consult a professional to ensure the mortice is cut accurately. A well-fitted lock is a long-lasting lock, and taking the time to install it correctly will pay dividends in the years to come. Remember that this product comes with a 10-year guarantee, reflecting the manufacturer's confidence in the longevity and build quality of their work.

How to get the most out of your new lock
Once you have installed your new Union L2241 Oval Sashlock 63mm Polished Brass, it should provide years of trouble-free service. To keep it operating as smoothly as the day you installed it, we recommend a light dusting occasionally to keep the mechanism free of debris. If you ever feel like the movement is becoming slightly stiff, a tiny amount of dry lubricant can work wonders, but avoid heavy oils that might attract dust over time.
