Description
Yale 706 40mm Traditional Nightlatch Bronze/PB
We all know that feeling of rushing out of the house in the morning. Whether you are heading to work or just popping to the local shop, you want the peace of mind that comes from knowing your front door is securely locked behind you. There is nothing quite like the classic design of a traditional nightlatch to provide that essential layer of everyday security. The Yale 706 40mm Traditional Nightlatch Bronze/PB has been a staple in British homes for generations, offering a simple yet incredibly effective way to keep your property safe.
Many modern locks can feel overly complicated or difficult to operate when you have your hands full with shopping bags or a restless toddler. This is where the beauty of the traditional design really shines through. It is intuitive, reliable, and built to stand the test of time. By choosing this model, you are opting for a piece of hardware that understands the rhythm of daily life while ensuring your home remains protected against unwanted visitors.
Why Choose the Original Yale Design
When it comes to home security, the name Yale is synonymous with trust. The Yale 706 40mm Traditional Nightlatch is the genuine article, representing the original design that set the standard for door locks across the country. It is not just about having a lock on your door, it is about having a piece of engineering that has been refined over decades to provide consistent performance.
The aesthetic appeal of this particular model is another reason why it remains so popular. With its enamelled nickel bronze body and polished brass cylinder, it offers a timeless look that complements both traditional wooden doors and more contemporary entrance styles. It brings a touch of classic elegance to your front door without sacrificing the rugged durability that Yale is famous for.
Practical Features for Your Peace of Mind
One of the standout features of this nightlatch is the integrated snib function. This is a small but incredibly useful button that gives you total control over how your door operates. When you are inside the house, you can use the snib to deadlock the lock, which makes it completely inoperable from the outside. This means that even someone with a key cannot gain entry, providing that extra level of security when you are relaxing in the evening or tucked up in bed at night.
Alternatively, the snib can be used to hold back the latch. This is perfect for those moments when you are moving items in and out of the house, like bringing in the weekly food shop or carrying boxes from the car. You will no longer have to worry about the door accidentally clicking shut and locking you out while you are busy.
- The lock features a robust enamelled nickel bronze body that is designed to withstand daily wear and tear.
- The included Yale 1109 cylinder is finished in a beautiful polished brass, providing a sophisticated contrast that looks great on any door.
- You will receive two keys with your purchase, allowing you to have a spare readily available for family members or emergencies.
- The latchbolt is fully reversible on site, which makes the installation process much smoother regardless of your door orientation.
- The snib function allows you to manually deadlock the door from the inside for added security when you are home.
- You can easily hold the latch back using the snib, which is ideal for when you are going in and out of the house frequently.
Installation and Compatibility
We understand that not everyone is a professional locksmith, which is why we value products that are straightforward to install. This nightlatch is designed for versatility. It is suitable for both left and right handed doors, so you do not need to worry about which way your door opens. It is specifically designed for inward opening doors with a thickness of up to 57mm, making it a perfect fit for the vast majority of standard residential wooden doors found in the UK.
Because the latchbolt can be reversed on site, you have the flexibility to adjust the lock to suit your specific setup without needing to buy extra parts or complicated kits. It is a practical, no-nonsense solution for homeowners who want to improve their security without the hassle of a complex installation project.
