Description
Yale 77 60mm Traditional Nightlatch Brasslux
We all know that feeling when you arrive home after a long day, perhaps carrying heavy shopping bags or struggling with a wriggling toddler, and you just want to get through your front door with as little fuss as possible. There is nothing more frustrating than a lock that sticks or feels flimsy when you need it to work perfectly every single time. This is where the classic design of a high quality nightlatch comes into its own. It is the silent guardian of your home, ensuring that when you step inside and close the door, you are instantly safe and secure. The Yale 77 60mm Traditional Nightlatch Brasslux is a name that has been trusted in British households for generations, and for very good reason.
When you choose this particular model, you are not just buying a piece of hardware. You are investing in a piece of home security history that has been refined over the years to provide exactly what you need. It offers that reassuring click as the door shuts, letting you know that you are protected. Whether you are living in a charming Victorian terrace or a modern semi detached house, this lock fits right in with its timeless brass finish. It is simple to operate, highly reliable, and designed to make your daily routine just a little bit smoother.
Why choose the Yale 77 for your home
The beauty of this nightlatch lies in its simplicity and its robust construction. You do not need a complicated degree in engineering to understand how it works. The design is straightforward, which means there is less to go wrong and more to rely on. The Brasslux finish adds a touch of elegance to your front door, providing a bright and welcoming appearance that stands out against the wood or paintwork of your entrance. It is a classic look that never goes out of style, making it a fantastic choice for those who appreciate traditional aesthetics combined with dependable modern performance.
Beyond the looks, the practical benefits are what really matter. This lock is designed to be the first line of defence for your household. It engages quickly and securely, giving you peace of mind whether you are popping out to the shops or settling down for the evening. Because it is a Yale product, you know that you are getting a brand that is synonymous with security. This is not just a lock. It is a promise that your home is looked after by one of the most respected names in the industry.
Key features you can rely on every day
- The lock features a reliable snib function that allows you to deadlock the door from the inside, which prevents the lock from being opened by a key or handle from the outside.
- It is supplied with the classic Yale 1109 cylinder, which is well known for its smooth operation and long term durability in various weather conditions.
- The latchbolt is designed to be easily reversible on site, giving you the flexibility to install the lock on either left handed or right handed doors without any extra hassle.
- Two keys are included in the box, so you have a spare ready to go as soon as you have finished the installation process.
- The traditional design is built to withstand the rigours of daily use, ensuring that the mechanism remains smooth and responsive for years to come.
- You can use the snib button to hold back the latch, which is incredibly useful when you are moving furniture in or out of the house and do not want the door to lock behind you.
Practical applications for your property
One of the main reasons our customers at Doorfit love the Yale 77 60mm Traditional Nightlatch Brasslux is its versatility. It is perfectly suited for inward opening doors, which covers the vast majority of front doors across the United Kingdom. If you have a door with a thickness of up to 57mm, this lock will fit comfortably and securely. It is an ideal replacement for older, worn out locks that may have lost their snap or become difficult to turn over time.
If you are a DIY enthusiast, you will appreciate how straightforward the installation process is. While we always recommend ensuring you have the right tools for the job, this lock is designed to be user friendly for those who are reasonably confident with home repairs. If you are ever unsure, it is always a good idea to consult with a professional locksmith to ensure the alignment is perfect, as this will help the lock perform at its absolute best.
The snib function is particularly popular in busy family homes. How many times have you stepped out to bring the bins in or collect the post, only to realise you have accidentally locked yourself out? By using the snib to hold the latch back, you can pop in and out freely until you are ready to secure the house for the night. It is these small design considerations that make this product a staple in our catalogue.

Maintenance and care for your lock
To keep your new lock looking as good as the day it was installed, we recommend a light touch. Because the finish is polished brass, it can occasionally dull over time due to exposure to the elements or simple handling. A soft, dry cloth is usually all you need to wipe away fingerprints and keep the surface shining. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can scratch the finish and damage the protective coating.
If you find that the key feels a little bit stiff after a few years of heavy use, a tiny amount of dry graphite lubricant can work wonders. Avoid using thick oils or greases, as these can attract dust and grime, which might eventually cause the internal springs to clog up. By taking just a few minutes once or twice a year to look after your lock, you ensure that it remains a reliable part of your home security system for a very long time.
