Description
Yale 77 60mm Traditional Nightlatch Bronze/PB
We all know that feeling of arriving home after a long day, juggling shopping bags or perhaps trying to manage an excited pet, only to find that fumbling with a complicated lock is the last thing we need. Your front door is the first line of defence for your family and your belongings, but it should also be a point of convenience. If you have been looking for a reliable, time-tested solution that combines heritage style with the security you expect from a household name, you have come to the right place. The Yale 77 60mm Traditional Nightlatch Bronze/PB is widely considered the original choice for British homes, offering a blend of simplicity and peace of mind that modern smart locks often struggle to replicate.
At Doorfit, we understand that upgrading your door hardware can feel like a daunting task, but this specific nightlatch is designed to be as straightforward as possible. Whether you are replacing a worn-out lock or fitting a new door, choosing a piece of equipment that has been perfected over decades is a decision you will not regret. This lock solves the common problem of accidental lockouts while providing a robust barrier against unwanted visitors.
The Classic Design You Can Trust
There is a reason why this particular lock has remained a staple in British households for so many years. It represents a standard of engineering that prioritises mechanical reliability above all else. When you turn your key in this lock, you get a satisfying, tactile response that tells you exactly where you stand. The finish, featuring an enamelled nickel bronze body paired with a polished brass cylinder, adds a touch of traditional elegance to any door frame. It is not just about keeping the door shut, it is about maintaining the aesthetic character of your property while ensuring that your home remains safe and sound whenever you step out.
The Yale 77 60mm Traditional Nightlatch Bronze/PB is designed to be intuitive. You do not need a degree in engineering to understand how it functions, and that is its greatest strength. It works exactly how you expect a door lock to work, every single time.
Key Features and Everyday Benefits
The beauty of this nightlatch lies in the clever little features that make your daily routine just that little bit easier. We have broken down the main benefits below to help you see why this is such a popular choice for our customers:
- The integrated snib function allows you to deadlock the door from the inside, which provides an extra layer of security when you are relaxing at home for the evening.
- You can use the snib feature to hold back the latch, which is incredibly handy when you are popping out to the car or the bin and do not want to lock yourself out by mistake.
- The latchbolt itself is designed to be easily reversible on site, meaning you do not have to worry about whether your door is left or right handed before you make your purchase.
- Each unit comes supplied with two high-quality keys, so you have a spare right out of the box for a family member or a trusted neighbour.
- The lock is built to last, backed by a solid two-year guarantee that gives you complete confidence in your investment.
Understanding the Snib Function
One of the most frequent questions we receive at Doorfit relates to the snib function. The snib is a small button found on the body of the lock. When it is engaged, it effectively deadlocks the mechanism from the inside. This means that even if someone has a key, they cannot operate the lock from the outside. This is a brilliant feature for added safety at night or when you want to ensure that no one can enter while you are in the house. Conversely, when you are moving items in or out of the house, you can use the snib to hold the latch in the open position, ensuring the door does not click shut and lock behind you while your hands are full.
Suitability and Installation
When you are choosing hardware, compatibility is everything. This nightlatch is designed for inward opening doors, which covers the vast majority of front doors found in the UK. It is suitable for doors with a thickness of up to 57mm, making it a versatile choice for both modern composite doors and traditional wooden doors. Because the latch can be reversed, you do not need to stress about the handing of your door. Whether your door hinges on the left or the right, the Yale 77 60mm Traditional Nightlatch Bronze/PB will fit perfectly with a little bit of standard adjustment during installation.
