Description
Yale PBS1 60mm High Security Nightlatch BS3621 DMG/PB
We all want to feel completely safe and sound when we are tucked up in bed at night or heading out for the day. One of the most common worries for homeowners is whether their front door is truly secure. Many standard locks can be vulnerable to simple tricks like carding, which is why upgrading to a high quality locking mechanism is such a smart move. If you are looking for a reliable solution that brings professional level protection to your home, the Yale PBS1 60mm High Security Nightlatch is designed to do exactly that.
This lock is not just about keeping the door shut. It is about providing a robust barrier that stands up to modern security threats. When you fit this Yale nightlatch, you are choosing a product that has been rigorously tested to meet the highest standards. It is perfect for those times when you need insurance approved security but perhaps cannot fit a traditional mortice lock. Whether you are replacing an old, tired lock or simply want to bolster your home defences, this unit offers that essential peace of mind we all crave.
Why security matters for your front door
Your front door is the primary point of entry for your home, and it deserves the best protection available. The Yale PBS1 60mm High Security Nightlatch is built with the realities of modern life in mind. It solves the problem of opportunistic intruders who look for weak points in standard door furniture. Because this lock features automatic deadlocking, you do not have to worry about whether you remembered to lock up properly. As soon as the door clicks shut, the deadlocking action engages, meaning the bolt cannot be pushed back or bypassed with a simple piece of plastic or a credit card.
This specific model is finished in a stylish dark metallic grey with a polished brass cylinder, giving it a smart and professional look that suits a variety of door styles. It is particularly effective for panelled doors, which are common in many British homes, and it offers the added benefit of being suitable for glass panelled doors too. Because you can operate the internal handle with a key for deadlocking, you gain an extra layer of security that stops someone from simply reaching through a broken pane of glass to turn a handle.
Advanced protection features
When you invest in this nightlatch, you are getting a package that includes a high security TS007 one star rim cylinder. This is a crucial component because it protects against the most common methods of forced entry. It is designed to resist drilling, picking, and bumping, which are techniques often used by unwanted visitors to gain access to a property. By choosing the Yale PBS1 60mm High Security Nightlatch, you are effectively closing the door on these common vulnerabilities.
- The 20mm anti-saw bolt provides significant strength, making it extremely difficult for anyone to cut through the mechanism.
- The included TS007 one star rim cylinder is specifically engineered to be anti-drill, anti-pick, and anti-bump for your safety.
- You benefit from advanced anti-carding protection, which ensures the latch cannot be manipulated from the outside by an intruder.
- The internal handle is fully lockable, providing a secure deadlocking function that gives you total control over who can exit or enter.
- A convenient push button allows you to hold back the latch, which is perfect for when you are popping in and out of the house with groceries or moving furniture.
- The dark red snib function is a simple visual indicator that lets you know exactly when the latch is held back, so you never accidentally lock yourself out.
Reliability and insurance compliance
One of the most important aspects of home security is meeting your insurance company requirements. Many home insurance policies specifically stipulate that doors must be fitted with a lock that meets BS3621 standards. This Yale nightlatch is fully Kitemarked to BS3621, meaning it has passed the most stringent tests for security and build quality. When you install this, you are not just making your home safer, you are also likely satisfying the terms of your insurance policy, which can save you a lot of hassle in the long run.
The build quality is exceptional, backed by a 10 year guarantee that reflects the confidence the manufacturer has in their engineering. It is also Secured by Design approved, which means it has been recommended by the police for its ability to deter crime. When you see that level of endorsement, you know you are choosing a product that has been thoroughly vetted by professionals who understand security better than anyone else.
Practical application and installation
We know that not every door is the same, which is why this product is designed with versatility in mind. The 60mm backset is a very common size, making it an excellent replacement for most existing front door locks. This means you can often upgrade your security without needing to perform major modifications to your door. If you are handy with a few basic tools, you will find the process straightforward, though we always recommend using a professional locksmith if you are at all unsure about the fitting process.
The operation of the lock is smooth and intuitive. From the outside, you simply use the key to operate the latch. From the inside, the lever handle makes it easy to open the door, while the ability to deadlock the handle with a key provides that vital extra security for glass panelled doors. It really is a case of simple, effective engineering that works for your everyday life.
