Description
Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch BS3621 Brasslux
We all know that feeling when you pull your front door shut behind you, only to worry whether it is actually secure enough to keep unwanted visitors out. Many of us rely on standard latches that might not provide the level of protection our homes truly deserve. If you have been searching for a way to upgrade your front door security without having to replace the entire door or install complex mortice locks, you have come to the right place. The Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch BS3621 Brasslux is designed to solve exactly that problem.
This lock is specifically engineered for those scenarios where a traditional mortice lock simply cannot be fitted or where you need that extra layer of reassurance. It is a robust, insurance-rated solution that brings peace of mind to your household. Whether you are living in a busy city or a quiet village, knowing that your entry points are protected by a Kitemarked, police-approved system makes a world of difference. At Doorfit, we understand that your front door is the first line of defence, and this nightlatch offers a practical, reliable, and incredibly strong way to ensure your home remains your sanctuary.
Why security matters for your front door
It is easy to overlook the importance of a high-quality nightlatch until you start looking at the specific security standards required by modern insurance policies. Many standard locks are susceptible to simple methods of entry, such as carding or bumping, which can leave your home vulnerable. The Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch takes these threats seriously. By incorporating advanced anti-drill, anti-pick, and anti-bump technology, it effectively stops common burglary techniques in their tracks.
The beauty of this product lies in its balance between ease of use and extreme durability. You get a smooth, reliable operation every time you lock or unlock your door, combined with the heavy-duty engineering required to meet the rigorous BS3621 standards. It is not just about keeping the door shut, it is about creating a barrier that is genuinely difficult for intruders to bypass.
Advanced features designed for your protection
When you choose this high-security nightlatch, you are investing in a suite of features that work together to keep your property safe. The design team at Yale has considered every possible point of failure and strengthened it. Here is what makes this lock stand out from the crowd:
- The 20mm anti-saw bolt is designed to withstand physical attacks, providing significantly increased strength compared to standard latches.
- You will receive a high-security TS007 one-star six-pin rim cylinder, which is widely recognised for its superior resistance to manipulation.
- The automatic deadlocking function ensures that as soon as the door is pulled shut, the bolt is fully engaged and cannot be retracted by using a credit card or similar tool.
- There is built-in anti-carding protection, which specifically prevents the latch from being manipulated from the outside.
- The internal lockable handle provides a secure way to exit while preventing people from reaching through a letterbox or broken panel to operate the lock from inside.
- You get two high-quality keys included, ensuring you have a spare right from the start.
Perfect for narrow styles and panelled doors
One of the most common challenges homeowners face is finding a lock that fits a narrow door frame. The Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch is specifically built with a narrow style in mind. Its 40mm backset makes it an incredibly versatile choice for replacing existing locks on older doors or fitting onto modern panelled designs where space is at a premium. It is particularly well-suited for glass-panelled doors because the internal handle can be deadlocked with a simple anti-clockwise turn of the key.
This feature is vital for homes with glazing near the lock mechanism. By deadlocking the internal handle, you ensure that even if someone manages to break the glass, they cannot reach inside and turn the handle to open your door. It is this attention to detail that makes the Yale PBS2 a favourite among security professionals and homeowners alike.
Standards you can trust
We know that for many people, insurance compliance is a major factor when choosing door hardware. You will be pleased to know that this nightlatch is fully Kitemarked to BS3621:2007 standards. This is the gold standard for residential security in the UK and is often a mandatory requirement for your home insurance policy to remain valid. Furthermore, it is Secured by Design approved, which means it has been vetted and recommended by the police for its ability to deter criminal activity. With CE marking and compliance with BS EN 12209 and BS EN 1303, you can be absolutely certain that you are installing a product that has been tested to the limit.

Practical operation for everyday life
Using the Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch is intuitive and straightforward. When you leave the house, the latch automatically deadlocks as you close the door, so you never have to worry about whether you remembered to turn the key. From the outside, you simply use your key to gain entry. From the inside, the operation is just as smooth, using the lever handle to open the door.
If you need to keep the door unlocked for a short period, such as when you are bringing in groceries, the dark red snib function allows you to hold the latch back. This is a very handy feature that prevents you from being locked out while you are popping in and out of the house. Just remember to release the snib when you are finished to ensure the automatic deadlocking feature is active again.
