Description
Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch BS3621 Chrome
When you come home after a long day, the last thing you want to worry about is whether your front door is truly secure. Many of us rely on standard locks that might not provide the peace of mind we really need, especially when it comes to insurance requirements or protecting our families from intruders. If you have been looking for a way to upgrade your home security without needing to install a bulky mortice lock, you have come to the right place. The Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch BS3621 Chrome is designed to bridge the gap between convenience and heavy duty protection.
This lock is perfect for those times when you need a robust solution for a narrow door or a glass panelled entrance where a standard mortice lock simply will not fit. It is built to meet the rigorous demands of British Standard BS3621, which is the gold standard for security locks in the UK. By choosing this model, you are not just buying a piece of hardware, you are investing in a proven deterrent that helps keep your home safe and sound.
Why security matters for your front door
The front door is the primary entry point for any home, and unfortunately, it is also the first target for opportunist burglars. Many older nightlatches are vulnerable to simple techniques like credit card manipulation or bumping. The Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch BS3621 Chrome removes these worries by incorporating advanced anti-pick, anti-drill, and anti-bump technology. It is a sophisticated piece of engineering that ensures your door stays locked when you want it to, and stays that way until you decide otherwise.
Advanced protection features
What sets this nightlatch apart is the sheer level of detail Yale has put into its construction. It is not just about keeping the door shut, it is about making it physically difficult for someone to force their way inside. Every component has been tested to ensure it withstands common attack methods used today.
- The 20mm anti-saw bolt provides exceptional strength and resistance against physical attacks.
- The included TS007 one star six pin rim cylinder is specifically designed to resist drilling, picking, and bumping attempts.
- Automatic deadlocking functionality ensures that the door is always secure the moment you pull it closed.
- The internal lockable handle adds an extra layer of security, making it difficult for an intruder to exit through the door even if they manage to break the glass.
- Anti-carding protection prevents the common trick of sliding a thin plastic card between the door and the frame to retract the bolt.
Versatile design for modern homes
One of the biggest challenges homeowners face is finding a high security lock that actually fits their specific door style. Many high security locks are far too large for narrow frames, but this model has been specifically engineered with a 40mm backset. This makes it an ideal choice for narrow style doors or panelled doors where space is at a premium. The chrome finish provides a clean, modern aesthetic that complements most contemporary door furniture, ensuring that your home looks as good as it is secure.
Furthermore, the internal handle is ergonomically designed for ease of use. You can easily deadlock the latch by simply turning the key anti-clockwise from the inside, which provides peace of mind when you are at home in the evening. The dark red snib function is a clever little feature that allows you to hold the latch back, which is incredibly useful when you are popping out to the car or bringing in the shopping and do not want the door to lock behind you accidentally.
Insurance compliance and police approval
Insurance companies often stipulate that external doors must be fitted with a lock that meets the BS3621 standard. Failing to have an insurance approved lock can sometimes invalidate your home insurance policy in the event of a burglary. By installing this Yale nightlatch, you are ticking all the right boxes. It is Kitemarked to BS3621 2007, which means it has been rigorously tested by the British Standards Institution. It also carries the Secured by Design accreditation, which is a police preferred specification. When you choose this product, you are choosing a solution that is officially recognised for its ability to reduce crime.

Ease of operation
We understand that security should not come at the expense of convenience. The Yale PBS2 40mm High Security Nightlatch BS3621 Chrome is designed to be smooth and reliable in everyday use. The key operation from the outside is crisp and responsive, while the internal lever handle allows for quick exit in case of an emergency. Because it automatically deadlocks upon closing, you never have to worry about whether you remembered to lock up. It is the perfect balance of automated security and manual control.
If you have a glass panelled door, this lock is particularly well suited to your needs. The internal deadlocking function ensures that even if someone manages to break the glass to reach inside, they cannot easily operate the handle to open the door, provided the deadlocking mechanism has been engaged with the key. It is these small, thoughtful design choices that make Yale a market leader in home security.
