Protus Fire Doorsets Hit Tight Schedule at Hunter Street Medical Centre

Protus Fire Doorsets Hit Tight Schedule at Hunter Street Medical Centre

25 bespoke size Protus Fire Doorsets delivered in 20 working days.

Hunter Street Medical Centre, a grade 2 listed building, originally known as The London (Royal Free Hospital) School of Medicine for Women, needed an urgent fire door upgrade. The 25 doorsets were all of a bespoke size, some with side screens and all either FD30 or FD60 rated. The doorsets were finished in a mixture of American White Oak veneer or primed for painting and complete with ironmongery that reflected the needs of those with a disability that would be using the building.

Doorfit worked with the Contractor, Gleeds and NHS services that ensured the pre-hung doorsets would be delivered within the 20 working days needed to ensure that there was minimum disruption to the medical centre.

The London School of Medicine for Women was founded in 1874 by Sophia Jex-Blake to train women as doctors, it was the first institution in the UK opened specifically in order to train women as doctors, and the first UK institution to succeed in doing so through legally-approved procedures rather than loopholes. It quickly became associated with the Royal Free Hospital, which opened its wards to the students in 1877; the working relationship was eventually reflected in the change of name to the London (Royal Free Hospital) School of Medicine for Women in 1898.

Protus Fire Doorsets – a compliant solution for ASDA

Protus Fire Doorsets – a compliant solution for ASDA

Complete doorsets prove to be the simplest route to compliance.

Doorfit initially worked with Architects Whittam Cox and the client ASDA in formulating a robust but aesthetic standard specification for Ironmongery. It soon became evident that with the many contractors and specialist shopfitters involved in the stores and express projects, a complete Protus timber doorset and Ironmongery package was the route to ensuring a compliant solution.

Doorfit has subsequently supplied numerous projects up and down the country with Protus doorsets that include FD30 and FD60 doorsets with vision panels and acoustic rated doors for eye screening and pharmacy rooms. All doorsets were produced in ASDA’s preferred laminate finish and primed for painting both in standard and bespoke sizes.
